Ravenwood Instruments

Ravenwood creates string instruments that are all in one key. The key can be changed by tuning the instrument up or down half steps. This gives a very unique instrument with lots of benefits. Because all of the notes on the instrument are in the same scale, everything harmonizes beautifully; a beginner who has just learned the basics can create pleasing melodies with ease, groups of players jamming together never have to worry about playing off from everyone else, even bands can twiddle around until they find the new sound they’ve been looking for.

Designing an instrument all in one key gives aspects you don’t get on other instruments. Mindlessly jamming becomes a composition of beautiful melodies as everything harmonizes. Slides up and down frets no longer pass over notes that are not in key; giving a more harmonizing tone to slides. Playing songs that are not in the key of the instrument hard-forces them into that key, any note that would be out of key is brought up to the next fret in that key. Capo’s no longer change the key you’re in, but provide a new arrangement for the song you’re playing; where a capo would normally move every note you’re playing up the same amount, on our instrument it moves it up to the next note in the scale/key. This means transposing a song does not change the key you are playing the song in.

These instruments are great for all skill levels and especially beneficial to beginners. When first learning an instrument, it can be discouraging trying to create music, as much of what you play does not harmonize; with our instrument you will sound like a professional while you randomly pluck and strum. They aid in teaching, learning music theory, and the relationship between scales - as well as scale lay-out.

Currently we have Ukuleles in the key of C, we are soon adding more instruments and keys.
